uhhh

Haven't paid to much attention to the site lately so here's a random post for all the bored people out there, i call it 3 things awesome about Smithville

1) The movie Hope Floats was filmed in Smithville, and was released at theaters across the nation on May 29, 1998. I still haven't watched this but it must have been good.

2) On December 2ND 2006, at the annual Festival of Lights, Smithville broke the Guinness Book of world records, record for the biggest gingerbread man ever, measuring over 26 feet. Cause everyone loves big food.

3) The late DJ Screw, Pioneer of Screw music, the style of dirty south hip hop known for its pitched-down lyrics and chopped-up beats was Born in Smithville. I'm working on getting the name Smithville officially changed to Screwville.

Wow when i put it all together it makes me think maybe this place isn't that bad after all

One thing i have noticed since I've been back in Smithville is the insane amount of no trespassing signs i see while riding my bike out in the sticks. i can understand not wanting anyone to come on you land but don't you think the 6 no trespassing, 3 private property, and 2 beware of dog signs might be a bit of overkill? i think some of the people out here just need to relax a little no ones coming to dig up your guns.

off

Whats Up with Tristan?
Well right now I'm in the final leg of my off season, usually during my off season i try not to touch a bike for about 2 weeks but that all went out the window when my car was rammed by a teenage driver. now i have a black eye but thats from a non car crash related freak head butting accident.
More latter when I'm doing interesting things.

Q & A

Q: isn't that a picture of that guy who won that race in France like 12 times or something?
A: ya, something like that.
Q: isn't he coming out of retirement so he can win it a few more times?
A: no, actually he's coming out of retirement so he can race out at rockin' hill on Sunday.

picturegraph

I must not be very photogenic because it seems like every time i look at pictures from races i can find pictures of everyone but myself, its sad. i started the race this weekend with the idea that it would be smart to get into the single track first and it paid off, people were forced to take my picture.

People probably don't take my picture because they know I'm just gonna steal um like i did with this picture taken by Rudy, i cant stop.

?

its weird but the only logical way that i can come up with for the reason the trails out at lake Bryan were made the way they were is, the people making the trail decided it would be a cool and easy idea to just dump a bucket of paint on a cow and let it walk around running into trees and thus marking the trees for where the trail would go. normally this would work just fine people make trails that follow cow paths all the time but what i think happened that ruined everything is somehow the cow got into their alcohol supply before he was sent out, so he was completely sloshed the whole time he was making the future race course. Its just a guess but it explains everything so wonderfully

nomas

State road race is over and you know what that means, no more road racing for a few months! its only exciting for like the first month then i get bored and start counting down to the next race. i still have a few more mountain bike races to do before I'm completely done for the year but only one of them is over an hours drive from My house so I'm not stressing to much.

Thanks to Kathy J. for sending me this picture of some pure sufferage during the palo duro hill climb

Americans can take comfort from the fact that not everyone in the stock market lost money yesterday "Campbell's Soup: Lone Survivor of the S&P Sell-off"

I think i have the fast starting and finishing thing down, now i just have to learn how to not slow down in that part that comes in between those two.

Did you know that there is at least 3 other Tristan Uhl's in the USA, 2 from Texas 1 from Washington and me. who'd of guessed?
how is the TV schedule for the Olympics is chosen? i just watched 2 hours of water polo and now rhythmic gymnastics is on. i love in rhythmic gymnastics how they call the rope, the ribbon and the hoop apparatus.

Add another 2 hours onto that cause the flight was just delayed again, i could drive home and get back before this flight even leaves. i probably could have driven from California and made it back before this and id have my bike and all of my clothes.

flyin'

This has been by far the worse travelling day i have ever had, I've been in the airport for 16hrs and i still have 2 more to go. i was on track to make it home at around 2 in the afternoon but when my plane landed in Phoenix for my transfer they couldn't get the door thing to work so everyone was stuck in the plane for about an hour after we landed so i missed my connecting flight then i didn't get on my standby flight that left 6 hours later. i was told that there was no more flights to Austin tonight so i asked if i could fly to Houston then Austin and they said it was cool now the flight from Houston to Austin is delayed 2 more hours, i should be getting in some time around 2. Good thing i have awesome friends who are willing to stay up late to come pick me up. now i just have to figure out where im sleeping tonight.

Friday, August 8, 2008

I was so close to making it this whole trip without crashing, just 4 more days. it was a pretty cool crash though. I'm not quite sure what happened but here's what it looked like from my view point. Start of 1 lap to go somewhere top 15ish. one of the Garmin chipotle guys pulled off to the right out of there lead out train and pushed the guy directly in front of me into the barriers, i think his hood caught the barrier and the front part of his bike unattached its self from the rear part of the bike, i run over his body and get launched onto my chest, i belly slide and hit my chin on the ground a little but not to bad, people pile up in a heap behind me. i got out of it with a few little scratches but nothing bad, i think the guy that ran into my bike broke his arm so i guess i should be happy but its disappointing to be marked as a DNF in what was the easiest crit Ive done in a while, i hope the road race is that slow just a little less sketchy
